In preparation for the upcoming 26th FAPA Congress 2016 in Bangkok, the Federation of Asian Pharmaceutical Associations (FAPA) held a series of meetings at the Windsor Suites and Convention, Bangkok last March 18 to 19, 2016. The meetings focused primarily on three areas: the FAPA awards, the FAPA 2015-2018 bureau plans and the details of the 26th FAPA Congress 2016.

First in the series of meetings was the FAPA awards meeting led by Mr. Dani Pratomo, the FAPA awards committee chair and FAPA President –Elect. The meeting aimed at improving the current regulations of the FAPA awards and the selection of awardees for the year 2016. The meeting ended fruitfully with the revision of certain aspects of the regulations, which will be implemented in the 2018 FAPA awards, and the successful selection of awardees after thorough deliberation. The announcement of the awardees and their respective awarding will take place during the 26th FAPA Congress 2016.

In another meeting, the FAPA 2015-2018 bureau members discussed various topics concerning the goals of the bureau set forth. Among which are the reformation of the structure of the FAPA secretariat and the progress of the membership expansion to pharmaceutical associations in the Western Pacific Region, Eastern Mediterranean Region and South East Asian Region. In line with membership expansion, FAPA plans on revising the membership fees for incoming members and including an observation type of membership. Activities promoting the implementation of Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP), another goal set by the bureau, were also discussed during the meeting. The 5th GPP International Training Program organized by the FAPA Foundation in Taipei, Taiwan in collaboration with the Taipei Veterans General Hospital (TVGP), Taiwan Young Pharmacists Group (TYPG) and the Pharmaceutical Society of Taiwan (PST- Taiwan) will be held in Taipei, Taiwan from the 7th to the 13th of July 2016. A 2-day community pharmacy workshop will also be held in Fukuoka, Japan later this year. Apart from these programs, English translated versions of the Good Pharmacy Practices of Thailand and Korea will be sent to FAPA member associations. On the aspect of collaborations with other organizations, FAPA plans on collaborating with its member associations in translating top three 2015 Antimicrobial Resistance campaign comic competition winners to each country’s local language. Before the meeting commenced the FAPA bureau and secretariat produced a photo and a video that welcome the Emirates Pharmacy Society, with a theme, “We Are One, We Are Family.”

For the 26th FAPA Congress 2016 with the theme “Integrating Asian Pharmacy Wisdom for Better Global Health” which will be held on the 9th to the 13th of November in Bangkok, Thailand, the Pharmaceutical Society of Thailand under the Royal Patronage (PAT) presented their preparations in detail to the FAPA bureau. Both organizations worked on polishing and finalizing the details of the congress and visited projected site of the event together. Both organizations agreed to continue to closely collaborate for the needed preparations for the success of the 26th FAPA Congress 2016.
