Indonesian Pharmacist Association (IPA) was established by the decree of the Minister of Health no.41846/KMB/121 dated 16 September 1965. Ever since, the number of IPA’s president is 18, including the current president Mr Nurul Falah Eddy Pariang, Apt (2014-2018). The number of IPA members is now 54,000 pharmacists spreading over 17,000 islands in Indonesia.
Pharmacists in Indonesia are now struggling to get recognition from society, especially health community. In the last five years, IPA has fought to improve the pharmacy professionalism through education, continuing professional development, intense communication with government and other health professionals. Besides, IPA has even sharpened its goals through 5 pillars, namely Quality of regulation, implementation and enforcement, Pharmacist Education, Pharmacist Branding, Quality of Organization and Pharmacy Professionalism
To measure the competence of pharmacists, we now have a national competency test for bachelor degree of pharmacy; in addition we are also developing OSCE method in order to have a comprehensive measurement. IPA also initiated the establishment of accreditation agency for school of pharmacy.
In branding, IPA requires a pharmacist to wear uniform (broken white) in working area. IPA also produces short video for community introducing the role of pharmacists (Popular called “DAGUSIBU”). Other activities involve recertification method, web on CPD, improving data base of members, establishment of collegiums and etc
